His parents have been thinking for some time of the most fitting permanent memorial for their wonderful son, and a project centrally concerned with Cancer Research and childhood tumours is starting to take shape. St Werburgh’s is privileged to be involved with this Appeal. We plan to raise £20,000 in the course of 2012 – and we’re starting with our own Christmas Card Sale at all Masses throughout next month. I know you’ll support us to the hilt! Any volunteers to take charge of Sales at each of the Sunday Masses??

Please also remember in your prayers REBECCA CORIAM and her family.

SETTING THE HOUSE ALARM WHILE FR. PAUL AWAY
I’m always loath to turn the place into a fortress, but I’m sure you’ll agree that something has to be done after the recent break-in. We’ll be reviewing security over the next few weeks and come back to you all with some definite proposals for your discussion and agreement. As a first step, can we all agree on the list of Key Holders? Any name to add or delete? Syd Jones (Secretary), Ray Harper (Organist), Marie Broadhurst (Florist), Pauline Hackett (SVP), Eleanor Elwell (Housekeeping), Brian Flack (Sacristan) and Louise Robertshaw (FHC). All key holders will be notified of the alarm arrangements. As a minimum, the alarm will be set between 6.00pm – 9.00am for the days while Fr Paul is away.

USE OF CAR PARK NEXT DOOR
The Council has refused permission for the land next door to be used as a commercial car park and the owners have now advised us that any cars parked there risked being clamped. The one exception is Sunday morning when bona fide parishioners may park there up to 12 noon without charge.

VISITING PRIEST NEXT WEEKEND
Next weekend while I’m away we are delighted Fr. Alan Bell from the Crusade of the Holy Spirit will be coming to tell us about his missionary work. I’m sure we’ll make him very welcome and there will be a 2nd Collection to help support the work of his Order.

Among the many jobs we’ve completed have been: a huge box of foreign and out-of-date money taken to M&S for their breast cancer appeal – all from Sunday collections over the five years! – and a cupboard full of old books taken from the top floor untouched for 30 years. Some are on the table at the back of church if you would like to help yourself.

Sadly, we had a break-in at the Presbytery in the early hours of Wednesday morning last week. They levered open the window of the Office, and stole the Parish Computer. Nothing else, fortunately, but still an incredible inconvenience, as you can imagine, with so much of the Parish Admin depending on it these days. Excellent Police Response, and some leads to follow up. We’ve also had the theft of lead from the roof and my own laptop from the back Sitting Room in recent months. I’m always loath to turn the place into a fortress, but I’m sure you’ll agree that something has to be done. We’ll be reviewing security over the next few weeks and come back to you all with some definite proposals for your discussion and agreement. As a first step, can we all agree on the list of Key Holders? Any name to add or delete? Syd Jones, Ray Harper, Marie Broadhurst, Pauline Hackett, Eleanor Elwell, Brian Flack. For all key-holders, we will need to agree arrangements for setting and cancelling the Alarm during the ten days I am away.

They levered open the window of the Office, and stole the Parish Computer. Nothing else, fortunately, but still an incredible inconvenience, as you can imagine, with so much of the Parish Admin depending on it these days. Excellent Police Response, and some leads to follow up. But it looks as if we’re going to have to tighten our security quite considerably, as we’ve also had the theft of lead from the roof and my own laptop from the back Sitting Room in recent months. I’m always loath to turn the place into a fortress, but I’m sure you’ll agree that something has to be done. We’ll be reviewing security over the next few weeks and come back to you all with some definite proposals for your discussion and agreement. Thank you.

After visiting Notre Dame des cyclistes (honestly there is a national sanctuary, you can look it up on Google) he had to call into get his bike repaired and then had a puncture around 20km short of Lourdes. For the first time he was complaining about knees, hamstrings etc. Just think what he would have been like had we not called in on ND des cyclistes. Anyway he did it. No cheating, the morning after the ferry crossing he insisted on going back to the ferryport to start from there rather than from where we stopped overnight. Not far short of 1000 miles cycling in the end. Very proud dad. Thanks for all your help, John Murray
